We have a team!
First let me take a moment to thank you for coming to our little corner of itch.io!
My name is Erik, and this is going to be the first of our un-scheduled Devlog posts. I will try to update every few weeks with what we have been up to lately. With that said I will introduce myself and the others who have recently expressed interest in joining Monthland development. In no particular order:
- Jacob (Music/SFX)
- Robert (Story/Writing)
-NostalgicBear (Programming)
- Erik (Programming/Art/Music/SFX/Design)
Monthland started as a few pixels on a blank screen in April 2022. And today, it is ever-evolving from a prototype to a completed game. The entire development process is estimated to take another 2 or more years from the time of this post. I hope to see the team stay together throughout development and beyond. We do all have outside obligations, and Monthland is not a game being developed with revenue in mind. Although it will eventually be released as a paid game on steam after the development team contract is finalized.
With all that said - What is Monthland?
Monthland is a casual small-town life simulation game where plays can sit back and unwind. Make friends with the townsfolk, go out and grab your collectibles, enjoy seasonal events, or wrangle pesky ghosts who are up to no good.
What inspired Monthland?
After feeling an empty spot for two of my (Erik's) favorite games of all time, Animal Crossing for GameCube and Stardew Valley, I felt inspiration to try my hand at bringing my vision to life.
Will the graphics/gameplay/music change during the course of development?
Yes, they will change. The overall style will most likely be consistent. For example, we will probably not change from pixel art to vector art, and even less likely to go from pixel art to 3D art. However we will continue to revise our work until we think people are happy with it.
Is there a concrete deadline?
There is no deadline set in stone. If I had to give a very rough estimate, I would say winter of 2025.
Why does Monthland seem to be buggy or lacking content?
Monthland is still in the early stages of development. Originally started as a solo dev on his first large-scope project, there was and still is a lot to learn. You will be able to play Monthland here in its early stages. Once a release date is set, we will no longer post new builds that are free. It hasn't been decided if we will launch on itch.io, steam, or both.
Can others contribute to the development of Monthland?
Of course! Send us a message on Reddit - u/Viking-Games if you would like to contribute. At this time we are still looking for a pixel artist. Please include a link to any work you have created. Only those with a portfolio or past work will be considered.
With all that said, thank you for your interest in Monthland. Take care and feel free to share any thoughts.
Until next time,
-Erik
